The event was organised for the first time in 2012. The Vladswim program had a high number of swimmers preparing for the Rottnest swim, but at the time, there wasn’t a 10 km ocean swim event where swimmers could complete a qualifying swim. In December that year, Vladswim coach Vlad Mravec and Charm Frend Swim coach collaborated to set up the first 10 km swim event in NSW.
