Privacy Policy

AllSwims.au — along with its sister sites WaterLog.au and SeaSwims.Club — is a passion project run by all-year-round wild and open-water swimmers. We don’t run it for profit: the sites are free to use, aside from a small fee for those who wish to contribute to SeaSwims.Club. For the practical side — hosting, domains, the occasional invoice — the sites are operated through our day-job company, Yarra Technologies Pty Ltd (ABN 26 092 495 488), referred to on this page as “we” and “us”. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This page explains what we collect and why.

Browsing the map and directory

The map, directory tables and open-water calendar can be browsed without an account or any personal information.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage (pages viewed, general location by IP, device type). This sets cookies in your browser (e.g. _ga) and IP addresses are anonymised before storage. Analytics data is not used to identify individual visitors and is not linked to any account.

If you’re signed in, we also set a session cookie to keep you logged in. This is required for the site to function and isn’t used for tracking. We don’t run a cookie consent banner: Australian law doesn’t require one for analytics cookies like these, and you can block or clear cookies at any time in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google’s browser add-on.

Accounts

Signing in to submit or manage a listing uses a passwordless magic-link sent to your email address. We store your email address and role to operate that feature, never a password.

Contact, corrections and suggestions

The contact form, and suggestion/correction links on spot and event pages, ask for whatever you choose to tell us, name and email are optional. We only use this to reply if a reply is needed, and to review the suggested change. We don’t use it for marketing.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, the Australian wild swimming digest, we collect your email address and, if you choose to give it, a short free-text answer to “where do you swim?”. This is one list covering AllSwims.au, WaterLog.au and SeaSwims.Club, so a subscription can include content from all three sites. Nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link in the email we send you. We don’t sell or share the list, and every newsletter email carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Unconfirmed signups are deleted after 30 days; if you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal suppression record so we don’t email you again.

Data retention

Account emails are kept for as long as the account is active. Contact and suggestion messages are kept only as long as needed to action them. Analytics data is retained under Google’s standard GA4 retention settings.

Access and correction

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete your account, at any time, contact us below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time as the site changes. The version here always reflects our current practice.
