Magnetic Island to Townsville is an 8 km channel swim race in Queensland, Australia, held annually since 1954. From 1954-2007, the swim was conducted with shark cages, limiting the field to 7-8 swimmers. Since 2008, the event has been "cage-less" and unassisted, and the fields have expanded considerably.
